Debt Counselling
- The National Credit Act No. 34 of 2005, came into effect in June 2007. From this date Debt Counselling services became available to consumers who are over – indebted.
- If you are over – indebted, it simply means that most of your income is going towards paying your debt and you don't have enough money left to live on, or your expenses are exceeding your income
- Debt Counselling is very often confused with Debt Consolidation and many people think that it is a “ payment holiday “ You still have to pay your creditors, but it will be for a lesser amount, as negotiated by your Debt Counsellor.
- Debt Counselling is a service which assists consumers with budget advice, restructuring of their payments and negotiating with their creditors on their behalf.
